SAP Note 24927 - Freezes when displaying variants

Symptom:

When displaying variants, freezing can occur if the variant is used elsewhere at the same time, and has changed slightly in the parameters and select options of the report.

Cause and prerequisites

On read access to variants, checks are carried out, to determine whether, since creating the variant, anything stored in the objects in the variant (parameter and select options) has changed (for example sequence, also type or length). For some relatively harmless changes (for example, sequence), the variant is immediately adapted, that is, a database update occurs. The lock set at this point can also freeze if a further read access (linked in turn to an update) occurs at the same time.
