SAP Note 22369 - OnArchive: changed host name - new vset definition

Symptom:

For a vset, the "owner node" (that is, the local computer name) is also stored automatically in the SYSMASTER database (see also "LIST/VSET=/FULL" or "select * from sysmaster:arc_vset"). If you change the local node name (host name), the data stored for a vset is no longer correct and the system "searches for" a remote device with the "old"node name. The defined vsets can thus no longer be addressed.

Cause and prerequisites

After changing the host name, the "old" host name is not deleted from the internal SYSMASTER database tables for OnArchive.

Solution
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change this node name with an OnArchive "Modify/VSET" command. It is strongly recommended here not to directly update the SYSMASTER database tables as this may lead to inconsistencies of the SYSMASTER database.

Define new vsets after changing the local computer name. It is strongly recommended to make a complete backup (Level 0 Archive) with the new defined vsets immediately after the change.

The "old" vset definitions can then be deleted according to the instructions on "DELETE/VSET" given in the INFORMIX OnLine Dynamic Server Archive and Backup Guides.
