SAP Note 10621 - Business area dependent CO account assignment.

Symptom

If, in the case of an automatically created line item from FI (for
example, cash discount received or cash discount paid), the CO
account assignment object is assigned a business area (because a
business area was manually assigned or because a business balance
sheet is required), the following error message can occur:EKI247 : Cost center belongs to business area instead of

Cause and prerequisites

The cost center defined in CO customizing (automatic account assignment;
transaction OKB9; table TKA3A) is allocated to a predefined business area ; it is not compatible with the business area
transferred from FI.
Solution

If no business area balance sheet is required, you need not assign
a business area; thus the problem is automatically solved.
However, if you really want to work with business areas, there is
the option in CO as of 2.1D to make the predefined cost centers for
automatic postings dependent not only on the cost element but also
on the cost element/business area (this is also the same
customizing transaction, OKB9 and a specific account assignment, table
TKA3B) You can thus define a compatible cost center for each
business area. An interim solution would be:
not to carry out automatic posting directly to the cost element
but to an interim account. Periodically transfer the balance per
business area manually to the required cost element. In this
case, the cost center appropriate for the business area can be
entered.
