SAP Note 10614 - Variable for a variant, table TVARVSymptom Customer wants to create variants for a report so that a parameter is adapted automatica

Symptom

Customer wants to create variants for a report so that a parameter is adapted automatically.
Example: The key date should always be the current date (SY-DATUM).

Cause and prerequisites

Not currently implemented.
Solution

The table TVARV contains fixed values which you can use as input for report variants. If you want to change these values, you must do it explicitly. You cannot enter variables.

Special case: For date specifications, Release 3.0 allows you to choose a fixed value from TVARV or to perform a date calculation. For example, you can work out "today minus three days" or "first working day of the month".
The options for calculating the date in Release 3.0 are as follows:
- Define a date variable in the variant instead of the selection
variable (F4 in the variable type)
- It is NOT necessary to transfer the date variables extra into the TVARV
- On the field variable name, you can select the desired calculation
rule using Help (F4).

For date specifications before Release 3.0 as well as other variables, you must modify TVARV. For example, every day at 00.01, you can run a background job which sets the variable "TODAY" to the current value of SY-DATUM.
