SAP Note 22852 - XXL: DDE connection cannot be set up

Symptom:

A message appears when transferring a list object to Excel, which states that a DDE connection to a local display service cannot be set up.

Cause and prerequisites

A 32-bit version of SAPGUI is used, but only a 16-bit version of Excel. However, the XXL component, used to link SAPGUI and Excel, works with the Windows DDE mechanism ("dynamic data exchange"), and this sometimes fails if you try to link a 32-bit application to a 16-bit one.

Solution
Upgrade Excel to the 32-bit version. That is, please use Excel Version 5 for windows NT or Excel 7 for Windows 95.
