SAP Note 16146 - SE41/SE38/Modifying menu MENUASMN

Symptom:

Customer wants to modify a menu (menu: MENUASMN). Error message in SE41: 'Program does not exist.'
When the customer calls SE38, the system also reports that the program does not exist when customer tries to display or change the program.
If the customer clicks on Create (SE38), the regular "Set repair flag" popup appears.
Question: Can the customer continue from the "Object for repair" window without consequences?
Customer suspects an inconsistency.

Cause and prerequisites

Customer attempted to change an area menu with the editor. This is not possible.

Solution
Area menus have the naming convention MENU"ABCD".

Start SE80
->Other objects ->Edit
->Area menu -> 'ABCD'
Display, change, test, ...
