SAP Note 12151 - Estimating disk space for asset data in advance

Symptom:

Customers might want to estimate the disk space occupied by asset master data and asset transactions in advance.

Solution
The required disk space can only be roughly estimated using the following 'rule of thumb' formulas (in Kb):

Asset classes No. of asset classes * 3
Asset master records: No. of assets * (2 + No. of deprec. areas * 0.2 +
No. of deprec. areas * No. of fiscal years *0.5)
Transactions: No. of Transactions * No. of deprec. areas * 0.2
Depreciation posting: No. of assets * No. of posting areas * No. of
posting runs * 0.2

No. of deprec. areas = Average number of depreciation areas per asset
No. of fiscal years = Number of fiscal years for which a year segment
per asset is to be kept
No. of posting areas = Number of depreciation areas for which
depreciation is periodically posted

For the number of transactions and number of posting runs, you have to set the highest number that can be reached during the archiving/deletion. For example, for an annual deletion in each case 3 months after the year-end closing, this is the number which is reached within 12 + 3 =15 months.

The required disk space for FI documents does not increase if all asset transactions have already been individually posted directly to G/L accounts, since a document posted to an account for a fixed asset does not occupy any more space than a document posted directly to a G/L account.

Key word: Disk space
