- 1. The customer wants to upgrade to AIX 4.1.x. The saposcol was converted for AIX Version 4.x so that the AIX kernel structures no longer have to be accessed directly. Instead, data can be retrieved from saposcol via the AIX Performance parameter via a defined interface. This interface (libSpmi.a) is made available for AIX by additional packages. Two versions of this package exist (Performance Agent Toolbox / Aide Kit) from which various versions have meanwhile come on the market. The customer would like to know which version he can use.
- 2. Saposcol cannot be started (messages appear, such as
'Cannot load library libSpmi.a[shr.o]').
Missing or incorrect AIX library.
The tool 'Performance Toolbox' version 2.1.x (x=2,3,4) (order no. 5696-900) contains both 'perfagent' and 'perfmgr' components.
The tool 'Performance Aide' 2.1x (x=2,3,4) (order no. 5696-899) only contains the 'perfagent' component. This explains the price difference.
When new orders are placed for Performance Aide or Performance Toolbox, the customer is always sent the current version (at present Version 2.2).
The order number for version 2.2 has changed to 5765-654.
Both contain the 'shared library libSpmi.a', which is needed by Saposcol. 'Perfagent' determines the performance data that 'saposcol' gets via the library 'Spmi'.
The R/3 versions installed or to be installed on AIX 4.1.x require(d) only the Performance Agent 'perfagent' to operate Saposcol.
If the 'perfagent' infos are to be displayed in graphical form on AIX (for one or several agents/clients), the Performance Manager 'perfmgr' is also needed. However, this is merely an administrative requirement in AIX, independent from the R/3 System.
In other words: the less expensive variant (performance aide) is sufficient to run the R/3 System.
Order numbers for AIX with IBM:
'performance aide 2.1.x for AIX 4.1' IBM order No. 5696-899
'performance toolbox 2.1.x for AIX 4.1' IBM order No. 5696-900
'performance toolbox 2.2.x for AIX 4.1/4.2/4.3' IBM order No. 5765-654
The same applies for BOS from BULL. Order numbers:
AIX(TM) Performance Toolbox (TM) BULL UTSG019
AIX(TM) Performance Aide (TM) BULL UTSG020
With the command: lslpp -l 'perfagent.*' you can find out which Performance Agent version is installed in your system.
If none of the packages listed are installed, a message such as the following might be displayed when you start saposcol:
'Cannot load library libSpmi.a[shr.o]'.
Another saposcol must be used, depending on the perfagent version. Generally, the saposcol delivered by SAP runs in conjunction with the current version of the Performance Agent. Only customers who are using the version Performance Aide/Toolbox 2.1.2 should get a special version of the saposcol from the SAP FTP server (sapserv3) (see Notes 40605, 19227). In this case the above message is displayed when saposcol is started.
The following table gives an overview of the versions of Perfagent/ Performance Manager that are currently available and the suitable AIX release.
AIX Level Perfagent Level Perfmgr Level
3.2.5 1.2 1.2
4.1.3 2.1.3 2.1.x or 2.2.0
4.1.4 2.1.4 2.1.x or 2.2.0
2.1.5 2.1.x or 2.2.0
4.1.5 (1)
2.1.6 2.2.1
4.2.0 2.2.0 2.2.0
4.2.1 2.2.1 2.2.1

4.3.1 2.2.31 2.2.1.1 (2)
4.3.2 2.2.32 2.2.1.1 (2)

perfagent 2.1.5 and perfmgr 2.2.0 or with perfagnet
2.1.6 und perfmgr 2.2.1
ad (2): for AIX 4.3 perfmgr must use at least 2.2.1.1.

Comment on the table: SAP customers only need the Performance Agent. The Performance Manager is optional.
