SAP Note 24816 - Calc.fr.AsstValDate>Rtrmt of curr.asset data incor.

Symptom:

Under certain circumstances, the depreciation for a retirement is calculated incorrectly (particularly when the method net book value/remaining life is used). This occurs when you have a retirement of current asset acquisitions for an asset with a calculation key that says the calculation should be based on the asset value date, and the asset value date of the acquisition and the retirement are after the depreciation start date.

Cause and prerequisites

The net book value/remaining life method is generally based on the net book value and the remaining useful life at the start of the fiscal year or the start of depreciation. The system uses the remaining life starting with the asset value date of the new acquisition only when new acquisitions are involved. In this case, this method is correct. If a retirement of the new acquisition now takes place, the system has to calculate the correct depreciation of the retirement from the asset value date of the new acquisition. However, this information is not available in the current form of the depreciation calculation program. Therefore, the remaining useful life can only be determined from the fiscal year start or the start of depreciation. The result is that the system uses a different remaining useful life for the retirement than it does for the new acquisition.

Solution
Make sure the asset value date for new acquisitions in the year of acquisition is the same as the depreciation start date. Always use period control to set the asset value date for new acquisitions in subsequent years to the start of the fiscal year.
When you use the depreciation to the day, remember that the period control has no effects. You should therefore post subsequent acquisitions with the fiscal year start as the asset value date if you use the net book value/remaining lefe method.
Especially when using the net book value/remaining life method, the "Calc.Dep from AsstValDate" flag should not be used.
