SAP Note 17974 - Addresses in Customizing: Deleting phone numbers

Symptom:

When maintaining addresses for organizational units in Customizing, it is not possible to delete a phone, fax, teletex or telex number once an entry has been made, by simply overtyping it with blanks.
The following Customizing objects are affected:
- Company Codes (Table T001) Trans. OX02
- Company Code-dependent address data (T001E) FSAP
- Plant (T001W) OX10
- Org. Unit: Sales Offices (TVBUR) OVX1
- Routes: Transport. connet. pts. (TVKN) VORD
- Org. Unit: Sales Organizations (TVKO) OVX5
- Org. Unit: Shipping points (TVST) OVXD
Additionally in 2.2 and 3.0
- Sales Tax Address OBCM
Tax office address (T007F) OBCF
Additionally in 3.0
- Labor (T500P)
- Org. Unit: Transport. Planning Point (TTDS)
Since the same function module for maintaining addresses is also used for business and private addresses of contact persons, for example in Transaction VD02, FD02 or XD02. Thus, the error can occur also there.

Cause and prerequisites

This is caused by a program error.

Solution
The problem can be avoided only by a major program change.
For this reason, in Release 4.0A the address maintenance in Customizing will be completely replaced by the newly developed function modules of the central address administration, where a uniform handling of the functions is ensured.
For business and private addresses of contact persons (Transactions VD02, FD02, XD02) the new address maintenance is implemented as of Release 4.5.
Changing the field contents to any value unequal to SPACE is possible. We therefore recommend to enter a single character into the field, such as a hyphen '-' if the field contents is to be deleted.
In Release 3.0/3.1 (not in 4.0) another workaround is available:
Determination of the address number via Transaction SE16 and maintenance of the addresses via Transaction SAD0 where you can select and maintain telephone and fax numbers using pushbutton 'Communication types'.
