SAP Note 17959 - Backup - termination "no free disk space"

Symptom:

If you make a backup while the system is running (online mode), it terminates with the following error message:
(inf131) -131 ISAM error: no free disk space.

Observed for OnArchive:
"aborted by client"

Cause and prerequisites

During a backup during system operation (online mode) Informix generates and fills additional temporary tables. These temporary tables are created in the DBSPACETEMP (for this, see ONCONFIG parameter DBSPACETEMP).

If this DBSPACETEMP now overflows during the backup, ontape terminates with the message -131 "no free disk space".

Solution

Monitor the load of the DBSPACETEMP (according to ONCONFIG file) during the current backup.
onstat -d
Online 7.x

If you find that bottlenecks occur in the number of free pages, append an additional chunk to DBSPACETEMP.
onspaces -a -p -o <> -s
Online 6.x

For 0nline 6.x, the DBSPACETEMP must be dropped and recreated larger. The steps to be carried out are explained in your manual.
