SAP Note 13168 - Question: which matchcodes can customers change?

Symptom:

Caution: The following note is not valid for the search helps introduced as of Rlease 4.
Customer wants to change existing matchcodes in such a way that no/minimal extra effort is required during subsequent upgrades.

Solution

The following types of changes are uncritical and will not result in additional upgrade overhead:

    1. Adding a new matchcode object to the customer name range.
Naming convention: customer matchcodes must begin with 'Z' or 'Y'.
    2. Adding a new matchcode ID to the customer name range.
Naming convention: matchcode ID must be between 0 ("zero") and 9.
    3. Adding new fields to a matchcode object in SAP standard.
(these fields are automatically merged with the imported objects
of the matchcode structure of the SAP upgrade).
4. Deactivating an active matchcode ID that has been delivered by SAP if it is not labeled as a system matchcode ID (as of Release 3.0).

Any other kind of change should be discussed with your SAP consultant.
