SAP Note 12992 - EM: Please create account as cost element

Symptom:

Error-ID: KI280
During asset retirement, error message KI 280 is issued:
Please define account as cost element in controlling area.

Cause and prerequisites

1. Asset is assigned to a cost center and

2. A profit/loss posting is made and

3. The profit/loss account supports entry of a cost center

With this combination, the posting line is provided with the
cost center for the profit or loss.

Solution
If the account assignment of the cost center has been corrected:
define cost element in CO. If not: change the screen structure of
the G/L account such that the cost center is not allowed.
