The system does not perform any operation mode switching.
In the control panel (transaction RZ03), instances are flagged as configured incorrectly. As the error message, the system displays "work processes differ", "instance profile differs", "instance not configured" and so on.
A manual operation mode switching or the simulation of an operation mode switching via transaction RZ03 also displays relevant error messages in the log.
For a successful operation mode switching, the instance definitions must correspond with the current system configuration in the operation modes in relation to the profile and the total of the work processes.
Such inconsistencies are frequently caused by changes to the system landscape, for example, adding new servers or changes to the instance configuration (for example, profile changes) without adjusting the definitions in the operation modes.
You must update the instance definitions of the operation modes.
The easiest way to do so is to to transfer the actual state of the instances that are currently running.
We recommend the following procedure:
RZ04 -> Instances/Operation Modes (F6)
The list of instance definitions is displayed.
Now choose: -> "Settings -> Actual State
-> Existing Instances -> Set"
to update the existing instance definitions or:
-> "Settings -> Actual State
-> New Instances -> Create"
to add the definitions of new instances.
When you update the instance definitions, the system retrieves the data of each instance that is currently running and the relevant instance profile and creates or updates a definition for each operation mode that is available.
You must now adjust the work process distributions of the individual operation modes if required.
To do so, double-click the line with the name of the operation mode or choose "Instance -> Maintain Instance -> Work Process Distribution".
In the dialog box that is now displayed, you can use the keys + and - to change the number of work processes for the relevant process type.
