Changing the device type of a telefax output device in spool administration (for example, in "Postscript") either causes an error or produces incorrect results or displays no effects.
Which formatting possibilities exits for sending faxes from R/3?
Which formats are supported by the various fax systems?
You must make a distinction between pasting in a fax solution and (possibly) the R/3 System release.
- 1. Central fax solution via the SAPcomm Server:
- a) SAP R/3 Releases up to 2.2.
Faxes can be sent to the fax system via SAPcomm only in "pure ASCII format" (only text with page breaks: no formatting information such as font, pitch, etc.). Certain formats can be achieved only when the fax system used accepts text commands (e.g., setting landscape/ portait orientation, choice of font, merging graphics, etc.).
- b) SAP Releases as of 3.0
Faxes can be tranferred to the fax system via SAPcomm in any printer language for which a device type (e.g. "POSTSCPT") exists in the spool administration.
- c)
- 2. Local fax solution via SAPLPD+SAPFAX.DLL and WinFax PRO
For this solution, the same formatting possibilties are available that SAPLPD offers for output to a printer.

For general instructions on configuring in R/3, see Note 19302.
- a) SAP R/3 Releases up to 2.2.
TOPCALL or GAMMAFAX must be used as the fax output device type in spool administration. Regarding the use of text commands, see also Notes 18580 and 14957.
- b) SAP Releases as of 3.0
Any exisiting or newly defined devive type can be entered in spool administration as the fax output device--if its output format can be processed by the fax system used.
- 2. Local fax solution via SAPLPD+SAPFAX.DLL and WinFax PRO
For general instructions on configuring in R/3, see Note 09119.
The device type SAPWIN must be used for the fax output device in spool administration.
