Symptom

Customer would like to compare addresses in different mail systems

Cause and prerequisites

Customer uses several different mail systems and would like a central address comparison tool to save having to maintain addresses in several systems.

Solution

A connection to a X.500 directory exists. It was realized for the LDAP interface. Therefore, you can call functions from R/3 that allow you to access a directory and enable you to change entries. However, a connection to the central address management that is contained in R/3 is only available under certain conditions.

The following functions are currently available:

• Selection of an address from an X.500 directory via LDAP interface from different screens, in R/3, for example:
  - send screen
  - distribution list maintenance
  - central address management.

• Transfer of the addresses of the central address management contained in R/3 via a report to the X.500 directory.
  

SAP tested the directory services DIR.X V3.0 of SNI, QUIPU V8.2 of Nexor, and ISOPLEX DS V1.1 of Isocor. However, a connection to other X.500 directories via LDAP is also possible.
