SAP Note 22240 - Windows NT Control Panel settings

Symptom:

Which of the following settings should be choosen in the Control Panel?:

    1. Control Panel -> System -> Tasking -> Best Foreground Application Response Time
Foreground Application More Responsive than Background
Foreground and Background Applications Equally Responsive
    2. Control Panel -> Network -> Server -> Configure -> Minimize Memory Used
    Balance
    Maximum Throuput for File Sharing
    Maximum Throughput for Network Applications
Cause and prerequisites

Performance should be optimized.

Solution
1): The setting is only important if someone is doing a lot of CPU intensive work on an NT machine running R/3 (load balancing between R/3 and other applications). This is not common. The setting is therefore of little importance.

2): "Maximum Throughput for File Sharing" should not be chosen. The best setting is "Maximum Throughput for Network Applications". However, the influence on performance in this case is very little.
