SAP Note 19654 - RFC calls do not work

Symptom:

Error in RFC call:

Time out during connection setup. Check that partner exists.

Cause and prerequisites

1) Incorrect parameters set for the connection in SM59.
2) SM59 internally truncates the parametrization data when the data are too long.

Solution
1) Set parameters correctly.
- Host name correct?
- Service/System number correct?
- Target system active?
- For external programs: absolute path name e
- For external programs started with explicit host names:
Does the SAP System have rexec/rsh authorization on the
target system?

2) Call up SM59 once more after you have saved your entries and
display the connection parameters. Are they correct?
If a parameter has been truncated:
Try to reduce the length of the parameters concerned,
for example, by not specifying a gateway explicitly or
keeping the path name of the external program shorter.
(The problem is solved in Release 3.0).
