SAP Note 19221 - Printing graphics in HPGL

Symptom:

Trying to print graphical applications in HPGL.
These applications are graphical (network) editor and (since release 3.0) the barchart graphics.
Sometimes, customer is unable to print HPGL-files produced by the application.

Cause and prerequisites

Each output devices needs an other HPGL-driver. In Release 2.1x, 2.2x, all HPGL-outputs are HPGL 2, for HP printer 7600. Using other printers can work (if they understand HPGL 2) but can produce bad output results. Using pen-plotters, like HP 7550A is possible in Release 3.0x, but will show bad results, when colored regions are displayed.

Solution

In Release 3.0, following HPGL-device-drivers are supported.

  • HPGL 2 (Model 7600)
  • HPGL 2 (Model 7599)
  • HPGL 1 (Model 7475) can be used for 7550, too.
  • HP Laserjet
  • HP Paintjet
  • HP Designjet

If you want to print via R/3-Spool, you have to use printer type GRAPHICS, see also related note. Using other printer types leads to unpredictable results, no output is created.
