SAP Note 12593 - BRBACKUP on several, different tape drives

Symptom:

Consultant's question: How do brbackup/brarchive support backups on several tape drives that differ in respect to the tape size and type of compression the hardware carries out.

Cause and prerequisites

The existing hardware configuration.

Solution
Basically, all tape drives used for a backup should be of the same type. If they differ in respect to the tape size, you must enter the smallest value for the tape_size init.sap parameter. If you have mixed tape drives, some which can and some which cannot carry out compression, you cannot use the compression feature of the hardware.
